10 Facts about New Zealand Native Kiwi
Kiwis are nocturnal which means they are awake at night and sleep during the day.
The male (Father) kiwi usually incubates the egg.
The brown kiwi lays the largest egg in comparison to her body size of any any bird in the world! (ouch!)
The kiwi is the only bird in the world with nostrils at the end of its beak. These are used to seek out food deep within the soil.
Kiwis have very small wings, but can not fly.
There are only approx 70,000 kiwi alive today.
If kiwi are safe from predators, they can live up to 50 years old!
There are five kiwi species, and they are native to New Zealand.
Kiwi feathers are more like fur, and it has whiskers like a cat.
The kiwi species is thought to be around 8 million years old.
